Gender Pay Gap Report 2022
Gender pay gap figures are a measure of average pay across the men and women in a whole organisation, regardless of the nature or level of their work. This differs from an equal pay comparison which directly compares men and women who undertake work of a similar nature and is equal in value.
2022 saw a tentative return to normality following a turbulent period for the retail industry, and so we are delighted to see our snapshot including the entire company population once again. With no exclusions for furlough, we have been able to assess our standard remuneration across the business once again, and we are pleased to see that, even during difficult times, we continue to see improvements that started prior to the pandemic.
Our mean pay gap continues its downward trend towards the target of zero, falling from pre-pandemic levels of 13% to 7% in 2022. Our median pay gap is now zero, owing to successful strategies that have been a driving force in gender pay reporting.
Whilst JoJo are proud to have reached a median pay gap of zero, we will maintain focus on consistency across the business.
We continue to review our retail sector pay, as well as ongoing consideration to new and flexible ways of working that add benefit and value to employment.
Throughout the pandemic, some bonus schemes were suspended. As a result, the proportion of male and female employees receiving bonus pay in this period are 0% and 3% respectively.
As only parental returning bonuses have been paid during the snapshot year before April 2022, and during this time, there have been no males taking extended parental leave, no bonuses have been paid out to male employees. Following the government's guidance, we have therefore reported the mean and median bonus gap as not applicable for the snapshot year.
As stability returns to the retail industry, we are pleased to confirm the re-introduction of bonus schemes, and will continue to report meaningful data from next year.
At JoJo, we hace a new dedicated focus on reward, with the introduction of a number of new benefits, including the recent addition of Wagestream, a wage streaming app giving access to wages as it is accrued, providing employees with control over their financial wellbeing.
We look forward to maintaining our progress toward eradicating gender pay and bonus gaps, as well as adjusting to the new norms and establishing what reward means to our employees in this ever changing environment.
